An aerial view of Drax Power Station. Drax Power Station is responsible for generating 11% of the renewable energy in the UK. It offers a secure, dependable, and adaptable source of renewable energy, which helps to complement more variable sources such as wind and solar power. Located near Selby in North Yorkshire, Drax is the largest single renewable energy site in the country, producing approximately 14 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity—enough to supply power to around five million homes.

By utilising biomass pellets, Drax significantly lowers its carbon emissions by 80% when compared to traditional coal. The facility comprises four biomass-fired units, each with a capacity of 645MW, contributing to its total output of about 14 terawatt-hours (TWh) at Drax Power Station, Selby, United Kingdom, 16th August 2024
